TOKYOPOP LICENSES SPANISH LANGUAGE EDITION OF HIT MANHUA SERIES HEAVEN OFFICIAL’S BLESSING
Fantasy romance set in ancient China expands the TOKYOPOP Spanish language catalog
Los Angeles, CA – TOKYOPOP has announced that it has licensed the Spanish edition of the acclaimed manhua series, HEAVEN OFFICIAL’S BLESSING, by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu and illustrated by STARember. The series is the manhua edition of the bestselling “Danmei” (Chinese language Boys' Love) novel and has captivated readers globally with a memorable mix of fantasy and romance accented with adventure and royal intrigue. The Spanish language debut of Vol. 1 is scheduled for Fall release.
Eight hundred years ago, Crown Prince Xie Lian was considered the darling of the heavens and had limitless potential. At just seventeen years old, he ascended to godhood in the heavens and had many followers who worshiped him. Unfortunately, because of his heroic determination to meddle in the affairs of the mortal world to save his old kingdom, Xie Lian is banished from the Heavenly Realm. After suffering tragedy after tragedy, he even garners a reputation as the "God of Misfortune."
Eight hundred years after his initial ascension, Xie Lian rises once again to godhood, but now he has no followers or temples in his name, and he spends his days collecting scraps. One day, while returning from picking up trash, Xie Lian finds a mysterious young man named San Lang and takes him home. This young man, however, turns out to be Hua Cheng, the infamously terrifying but very charming Ghost King known throughout all three kingdoms. As their paths continue to cross, pure-hearted Xie Lian and the fearsome Ghost King become closer. Unbeknownst to Xie Lian, the mysterious Hua Cheng has been waiting for him for a very, very long time.
“The growth of Chinese manhua continues globally and also coincides with an expanding market in North America and beyond for content published in non-English languages such as Spanish,” says Lena Atanassova, TOKYOPOP Editor-in-Chief. “HEAVEN OFFICIAL’S BLESSING is a unique and noteworthy addition to our Spanish catalog and we are excited to support the continued evolution and localization of this stand-out series.”
