[Blood+] Before.

Part One: Good Morning

Characters:
~ Saya

~ Hagi
~ David Sr.
Rating: PG, for the moment.

~Introduction:
I’ve been meaning to to write something form Hagi’s point of view. He’s one of my all time favorite animated characters. when I was watching the series (Blood+) I had random thoughts about how things might look to him. Unlike what I originally intended this story is written from the third person. But all the same I like it. It still let’s the reader in on a lot more of his thought than the anime ever does.

This particular fiction is set somewhere in the1960’s - 80’s. Which seems like it could have been a time when Saya was awake. Although I can’t be sure of that, I’m only estimating it.

The title “Before” refers to there relationship before all the problems in Vietnam

Good Morning

Hagi had been feeling odd all day. His back and shoulders were tense and thought he had taken blood that morning, he was quite light headed. Also, he was excited, so that David whom he bumped into on the dock as he was rushing away to a very secret destination, grabbed onto his arm.

“What’s with you, Dracula. You’re usually pretty clam ?” David (The father of the David your thinking about) asked with no offense intended. He had become very fond of Hagi over the past few years. The feeling was mutual but he didn’t have time to chit-chat. With no extreme effort he slipped from the soldiers grip.

“Be careful about calling me that, where in public” he called back, Thinking that David must learn to be more careful about what he said.

He arrived at his destination as quickly as he could without drawing attention to himself. Despite the fact that he was wearing a trench coat in august, he was developing a chill and a slight head ache, that he was well aware had nothing to do with his recent rush.

He walked up a long asphalt drive lined on both sides by evergreen forest. At the end of the drive was what appeared to be a long abandoned brick home. The windows were cracked and vines had grow up it’s crumbling outer walls. The door as he knew it would be was unlocked. He had come here only five times in the past thirty years, fearing frequent visits might draw the eyes of familiar enemies.

When he opened the door he stepped no further than the door. There was a music box on a table, just inside. He reach into it, disabling a highly sensitive alarm system.

Once he had flipped the lid up and pulled the tiny Ballerina inside forward, he knew it was safe to enter. Still he hesitated. There were a few thoughts weighing heavy on his mind. For the most part he somewhat feared that maybe his senses were wrong and that she was still sleeping. If that were true the disappointment would be more than words could say. For the other part, he couldn’t help but wonder if he may never have to wait again, if this might be the final awaking. He didn’t care much for that. He knew that made him very selfish. Still, he couldn’t bear the thought. As tedious as waiting could be, he would wait forever to stop her.

His hesitation was only sleight, after a few moments his desire to see her face again, won over his fears. Pulling the door shut behind him, he steeped inside the house, heading directly for the stairwell that led into the basement.

The air at the bottom of the stairs smelled musty with age and dirt. A metal door with a dead bolt lock blocked his entry. The Red Shield had placed it there as more of time wasting obstacle than as a precaution. They knew that Saya’s enemies were not the type of creatures to be stopped so easily. Hagi carried it’s key around his neck.

He unlocked it and though heavy, it swung open easily at his shove. He smiled widely. There she was, lying groggily on the ground at the foot of her shattered cocoon. Her hair had grown long again and was messily tangled. Her form with the same beautiful curvature that he has first admired at the Zoo, so long ago.

He walked slowly to her side, kneeling down and removing his coat. He slowly rolled her over so that her head could rest on his leg. She started at him innocently with wide ruby eyes eclipsed behind her over grown bangs. He gently wiped them away and just looked at her for a moment. The only thought crossing his mind being complete awe at how naturally gorgeous she was.

Slowly he pulled her up in his arms and attempted to steady her virtually limp form long enough to pull his coat around her shoulders and fasten it one handed around her waste. Needless to say it was a difficult task. One that he almost regretted, after all he was a guy and he certainly didn’t mind the view that he’d had before.

Starved of blood, after her long sleep she clung to him, relishing the warmth of his well feed body. She didn’t speak or make any sign of recognition, acting very much like a over grown baby. She simply followed her instinct, being close to a creature her body told her intended no harm and could feed her.

He played with her hair untwisting the knots. He knew that David would arrive soon. The security system was linked to a beeper he carried. It would have gone off when the ballerina was pulled forward. Hopefully he would bring some sort of transport so that Saya could be moved before night fall. He couldn’t just walk down the street carrying a zombie version of a teenage girl in a trench coat.

“Good morning” He whispered to her, not ceasing to straighten her hair. He knew she wouldn’t understand yet, but he wanted to speak to her, “ I’ll feed you later. I would like to now. It’s a nice feeling, feeding you. I can’t, though. I wouldn’t be strong enough to take care of you.”

She responded to the sound of his voice by twisting away and flopping down onto her knees. Her eyes studied him and then very suddenly she touched his cheek, only to jerk her hand back away and to stare as if something about how it felt had shocked her. He laughed gently at her wide eyed expression.

She moved suddenly again, touching his bottom lip, trying to discover where the sound had come from. He cupped her hand in his, playing with her fingers. She watched silently. Then she moved her free hand up to play with his hair, as he had with hers moments ago. She was already learning. Everything will be back to normal in a few days he thought to himself. It wasn’t as absolutely joyful a thought as it should have been. Back to normal meant she would most likely be sad, despite how hard he might try to cheer her. His thoughts were broken by a extremely loud greeting from a man, whom many years later he would meet the mirror image of.

“Hello, David. I should apologize for running away from you this morning” He responded, finding it difficult to draw himself away from Saya long enough to make eye contact.

“Now that I see the reason, I can’t be angry with you” He said, Moving slowly from the doorway to get a better view of the girl he’d been waiting around to see since his admission to the Red Shield. “It’s hard to believe that she can do the kind of things you say” He commented, taking in her innocent appearance.

“I’ve seen it and I still find It hard to believe. She seems so fragile, sometimes” He said. Saya was staring at David. She nodded her head forward, so that her hair shook in his direction. Hagi stifled a laugh. David looked at him for guidance. He just shook his head. There was no way he was going to explain to David that Saya was under the impression he must want to play with her hair.

“Did you drive here ?” Hagi asked him. “I don’t want to have to wait much longer before I move her”

“Yeah Come on” He answered. With that Hagi lifted Saya up in his arms and started up the stairs. She let out a little gasp and he laughed again. David smiled. Hagi always seemed sort of happy. Never had David witnessed him as he was, though. It seemed that simply having Saya in his presence lifted his mood.

I really like it, I don't really read Blood + stories, but this one was really good. I'm glad its written in Haji's POV, he's feelings and thoughts on things weren't really shown in the anime so its nice to read fic like this.

I like the story which is Hagi's point of view. I liked how he found saya. Also, how did you make the writing text like thath? But still, thanx for inviting me. ^__^
